Sycamore Township residents hit by storms on Saturday, Aug. 1, can get free curbside debris removal, but they must register by 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The township declared a storm damage emergency for the Aug. 1 storms, waiving the normal $50 fee for brush pickup. The declaration is at least the third in 2026 and the second in less than two weeks, following the emergency triggered by storms on July 17–18.
The Aug. 1 storms struck on the same day the township had scheduled a free brush-chipping event to help residents still cleaning up from the July storms. New storms rolled through and generated a fresh round of damage.
How to register
Residents must call 513-791-8447 or complete an online request form at sycamoretownship.org by 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5. This is not a township-wide collection. Only those who register by the deadline will be placed on the pickup list.
Debris does not need to be at the curb by Wednesday. Residents have two weeks from the storm to get branches and brush curbside after registering. When placing debris, cut sides of branches should face the street, material should be unbagged and brush must not be mixed with leaves.
Free brush chipping on Aug. 29
For residents who prefer to haul debris themselves, the township will offer free brush chipping on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Township Administration Building at 8540 Kenwood Road.
Three emergencies since May
Maintenance Superintendent Steve Reutelshofer declared the July 17–18 storm emergency, which followed the same structure: a Wednesday registration deadline and a two-week window to get debris to the curb. The fee is normally $50.
The Aug. 1 declaration uses the same mechanism, though the township's announcement does not name the declaring official.
