Sycamore Township residents dealing with downed branches and storm debris have a free option coming: the township will offer brush chipping on Saturday, August 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Township Administration Building at 8540 Kenwood Road.
The service follows a storm damage emergency the township declared after strong storms struck on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. Residents were asked to report damage by 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22. That deadline has passed, but residents who still need assistance can call the township at 513-791-8447.
Debris must be placed unbagged at the curb with cut sides of branches facing the street and must not be mixed with leaves.
Second round of storms hits the region
Tuesday's severe weather marked the second significant storm system to hit Greater Cincinnati in less than a week. Tornado-warned cells moved through the area Tuesday afternoon, knocking out power for more than 10,000 Duke Energy customers, according to WLWT. A confirmed tornado touched down in Clermont County.
Duke Energy confirmed power had been restored for most customers by 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.
The prior weekend's storms dropped up to five inches of rain on parts of Cincinnati and neighboring communities, generating more than 900 sewer backup reports to the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati, according to WVXU. National Weather Service Meteorologist Julie Dian-Reed warned on Monday, July 20, that damaging wind would be the primary concern from Tuesday's system. "We could have clustering storms again, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some flood issues," Dian-Reed told WVXU before the storms arrived.
