U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor won reelection in Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democrat Jen Mazzuckelli, according to Decision Desk HQ.
DDHQ’s Nov. 5, 4:55 p.m. tally showed Republican Taylor with 175,411 votes (64.24%) and Mazzuckelli with 97,638 (35.76%). The 77,773-vote margin was 28.48 percentage points. DDHQ called the race at 7:30 p.m. election night and estimated more than 95% of the vote counted in its latest update. The totals remain unofficial pending certification.
The candidates and the district
The southern Ohio district extends from the Cincinnati suburbs to the West Virginia border, according to WVXU’s candidate guide. Both nominees won contested May primaries: Taylor defeated Bob Carr, while Mazzuckelli defeated Todd Wilson.
Taylor, of Amelia, is a former Clermont County assistant prosecutor who later led his family’s business, according to the candidate biography published by WVXU. Mazzuckelli’s biography describes experience as a high school English teacher and human-resources professional.
In responses to WVXU, Taylor advocated local decision-making on data centers, with attention to transparency and grid reliability. Mazzuckelli also emphasized local input but called for stronger federal environmental and consumer protections. Their responses were campaign positions rather than independent findings about particular projects.
Work in Congress
Taylor’s congressional office lists assignments on the Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure committees. He is vice chairman of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee and co-chairs the Congressional Rural Broadband Caucus and Congressional Trucking Caucus.
His campaign platform emphasizes conservative economic policy, border security, gun rights and education.
