Sycamore High School students heading back to class on Aug. 13 will find a new face in the front office.

Sycamore Community Schools announced Tuesday, Aug. 4 that Bret Mustain has been selected as the school's new assistant principal. He brings 15 years in education to the job, with a career that has included roles as a high school math teacher, department chair, advisor and coach.

Mustain holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education from Xavier University. The district, in its announcement, said Mustain has focused throughout his career on supporting both students and staff.

One of six new administrators

Mustain's hire is one of six administrative appointments the Sycamore Board of Education approved for the 2026-27 school year. The board first introduced Mustain at its July 21 meeting, as we reported that week, but had not released details about his background at the time.

What families need to know for the first day

Sycamore's staggered start schedule means ninth graders, 12th graders and all high school students new to the district will be among the first to meet Mustain when classes begin Thursday, Aug. 13. The remaining high school grades report Friday, Aug. 14.
