Hamilton County riders can board any Metro bus without paying a fare on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (Metro) announced Oct. 22 that all fixed-route buses, Access paratransit and MetroNow! on-demand service will be fare-free for the entire day. Buses will follow their regular weekday schedules.
"Every voice matters, and transportation should never be a barrier to civic participation," said Brandy Jones, Metro's Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.
Access paratransit will provide door-to-door rides for eligible individuals with disabilities. MetroNow!, Metro's app-based on-demand service, will offer fare-free trips within its designated service zones. Metro's announcement described five zones, though the agency's MetroNow! page lists six, including a Bond Hill/Roselawn zone that has since launched.
Riders can book MetroNow! trips through the MetroNow! On Demand app or by calling 513-551-5555.
Metro made the same offer for Ohio's May 5 primary election, when all services ran fare-free across the county.
The free-ride announcement arrives as early voting turnout in Hamilton County has climbed. WLWT reported that 9,482 votes were cast during the first four days of early in-person voting, more than two and a half times the 3,616 cast during the same period in 2022. Early in-person voting continues through Sunday, Nov. 1.
Polls on Nov. 3 are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to the Hamilton County Board of Elections. Voters need a valid photo ID.
Closer to home, Madeira City Council discussed raising awareness of MetroNow! at its November 2025 meeting. Council member Camper noted the on-demand service runs near Madeira and called public transit important even in a car-heavy community, according to council meeting minutes. Council member Thompson said she and staff member Norton-Smith had met with MetroNow! representatives and planned to promote the service on social media.
Metro is also seeking public input on proposed route changes set to take effect Dec. 6. One option under review would end Route 61 service in Madeira, though the Madeira Park & Ride would still be served by Route 2, according to Metro.
Residents heading to the polls on Nov. 3 can plan fixed-route trips using the Transit app or book a MetroNow! ride through the on-demand app.
Upcoming election dates:
- Early in-person voting ends Sunday, Nov. 1
- Election Day polls open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3
