Cincinnati City Council member Meeka D. Owens, a Democrat, is running for Hamilton County commissioner in the Nov. 3, 2026, election. The current certified candidate list also identifies Republican Jonathan Pearson and write-in candidate Carrie R. Davis in the race.

Experience and public service

Owens’s campaign biography says she was raised in Cincinnati and worked in nonprofit and community development roles before serving on council. She describes her council work as focused on affordable housing, clean energy, neighborhood investment and economic opportunity.

On the issues

Her current platform outlines four priorities:

  • Housing stability: Owens favors early intervention to prevent eviction and homelessness, expanded income-restricted housing, and county coordination of housing tools and funding across its 49 jurisdictions.
  • Legal representation: She supports access to lawyers for tenants facing eviction, legal help in eviction court and bilingual tenant education.
  • Climate and environmental justice: She advocates renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure and investment in neighborhoods with high pollution and health burdens. She points to her work on the Green Cincinnati Plan and energy aggregation as part of her record.
  • Regional collaboration: She calls for sustainable funding, transparent processes and development tied to affordability and neighborhood needs.

These priorities and descriptions of her record are attributed to Owens’s campaign.
