The Madeira Branch Library at 7141 Miami Ave. will shut its doors to the public starting Monday, Aug. 17, while crews finish replacing the building's heating and cooling system. Only curbside service will be available during the closure, with no reopening date announced.
Mackenzie Manley, a Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library content specialist, posted the timeline Wednesday, July 29, noting that HVAC work is already underway. Before the full shutdown, patrons will navigate a series of entrance changes:
- Through Sunday, Aug. 2: Use the Euclid Avenue entrance only. The main entrance is closed for construction.
- Monday, Aug. 3 through Wednesday, Aug. 5: Use the main entrance only. The Euclid Avenue entrance will be closed.
- Starting Thursday, Aug. 6: Both entrances reopen.
The branch then closes entirely on Aug. 17. The library said curbside service will remain available but has not detailed how patrons should schedule pickups during the shutdown.
The project falls under CHPL's Next Generation Library capital improvement program, which completed a $2 million renovation of the nearby Mariemont Branch in January and an interior improvement project at the Madeira Branch in July 2020.
The timing compounds access challenges for downtown Madeira. The final phase of the city's multi-year streetscape project has Camargo Road closed at Miami Avenue and traffic reduced to two single lanes on Miami, according to the Madeira Chamber of Commerce. The library sits in the same block as the Madeira Municipal Building, squarely in the construction zone.
