Republican Jay Edwards is running against Democrat Seth Walsh for Ohio treasurer in the Nov. 3, 2026, election, according to the secretary of state’s official ballot directive.

Experience and education

Edwards’s current campaign biography says he grew up in Nelsonville, attended Nelsonville-York High School and graduated from Ohio University with a mathematics degree after attending on a football scholarship. He was first elected to the Ohio House in 2016 and later chaired its Finance Committee.

On the issues

His current platform outlines five priorities:

  • Spending transparency: Expand Ohio Checkbook and improve access to searchable state and local spending data.
  • Ohio investment: Keep public funds working in Ohio and supporting its economy.
  • Community banks: Direct more state deposits and linked-deposit programs toward Ohio banks and credit unions.
  • Investment returns: Base investment decisions on returns rather than political ideology.
  • Oversight: Work with the auditor, attorney general and other state partners to address fraud, waste and abuse.

In a September interview with the Ohio Capital Journal, Edwards also criticized the state budget’s use of unclaimed funds for sports stadiums and said he wants Ohio Checkbook to be easier for residents to use.

Endorsements and questionnaire
