Indian Hill High School students will pick where they spend their free periods when the 2026-27 school year opens Thursday, August 13.
The school announced on its official X account Tuesday that Study Hall is being reimagined, with students gaining the ability to choose their own learning environment each day during their assigned free period.
The change falls under the district's #IHPromise strategic plan.
The Study Hall redesign is the latest in a string of changes Principal Andy Gruber presented to the Indian Hill Board of Education at its Tuesday, April 21, meeting. That broader schedule overhaul includes an open study model giving students more flexibility in how they use unstructured time in a supervised setting.
Other fall schedule changes
The reimagined Study Hall is separate from two other major shifts the high school has previewed this summer. As reported July 28, a new daily MP TIME flex block will give students 60 to 75 minutes for lunch, clubs, counseling and academic work. The school is also renovating its Media Center to include a maker zone, tech support area, and quiet study space.
The high school launched a #StudentFocusedUpdates social media series on Tuesday, June 30, to preview fall changes. The first installment introduced what the school calls "updated neighborhoods," flexible-use spaces students can access throughout the day.
Together, the initiatives represent a shift toward student-directed time at the school, which served approximately 659 students in grades 9-12 during the 2023-24 school year and holds the No. 1 ranking in Ohio from Niche.
