A first-grade student at Indian Hill Primary School jumped from a second-story window on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Principal Cash Hayden sent a letter to families that day describing the incident.

The student was transported for medical evaluation. Hayden wrote that, based on information "currently available," the student was "mobile and communicative" when emergency crews arrived, according to WLWT. The student is recovering and back at school.

The incident happened during the afternoon as half-day kindergarten students were being released.

"All students are safe following an incident this afternoon in which a first-grade student jumped from a second-story window as our kindergarten students were leaving," Hayden wrote. "The student was transported for medical evaluation, and the student's parents have been notified."

Hayden's letter did not address the extent of the student's injuries or the circumstances of the jump.

Hayden said the school is working with the Indian Hill Rangers and the Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire Department to assess the situation.

"We are currently working with emergency responders … and are assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident and any measures that may be appropriate to support student safety," Hayden said in the letter.

Counselors will be available for students who witnessed the incident or need someone to talk to, according to the letter.

The Indian Hill Exempted Village School District maintains a safety hotline at 844-723-3764 for community members to report concerns. The line is staffed around the clock by analysts in the Ohio Homeland Security Threat Assessment and Prevention Unit, according to district safety information.
