Indian Hill's field hockey team shut out Summit Country Day 11-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in a Southwest Ohio Field Hockey League (SWOFHL) road game that pushed the Braves' record to 5-0.

The blowout had a personal dimension. First-year head coach Emily Betz coached at Summit Country Day for multiple seasons before taking over at Indian Hill for 2026. At Summit, Betz earned SWOFHL Coach of the Year honors three times, in 2019, 2020 and 2025, and led the program to its first playoff appearance in over a decade in 2019, according to her coach profile on the Indian Hill Braves Athletics website.

Five games in, the Braves are unbeaten.

Indian Hill opened the season with a 4-2 home win over Olentangy Orange at Tomahawk Stadium on Aug. 22, according to the team's official schedule. Individual scoring details for the Sept. 8 game have not been published.

One player driving the early-season surge is Fay Van De Meulengraaf, the team's top scorer. Van De Meulengraaf tallied two goals and two assists in a win over North Oldham and three goals and two assists in a win over Oakwood, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's athlete-of-the-week ballot published Sept. 7.

Betz, a Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, native, played Division I field hockey at Davidson College, where she was team captain and earned All-Conference honors. Her coaching philosophy centers on accountability, grit and teamwork, according to her coach profile. She has helped four student-athletes reach the collegiate level, including two Division I and two Division III players.

In that same profile, published ahead of the 2026 season, Betz described what success looks like for her players: "Success is giving your full effort every time you step onto the field, committing to getting better each day, and making your teammates better because you were there."

The Braves travel to Ballard High School in Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m.
