Indian Hill's varsity field hockey team shut out Ballard High School 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 11, in Kentucky, pushing the Braves' season record to a perfect 6-0.
The road win was the second shutout in three days for Indian Hill, which blanked Summit Country Day 11-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 8. It was also the narrowest margin of the season for a squad that routed Summit by 11 goals just days earlier.
The Braves are 6-0.
First-year head coach Emily Betz has guided Indian Hill to wins in every game since the Aug. 22 season opener, a 4-2 victory over Olentangy Orange at Tomahawk Stadium. A 7-2 home win over Ursuline Academy followed on Aug. 25 in Southwest Ohio Field Hockey League (SWOFHL) play.
Betz arrived at Indian Hill after coaching at Summit Country Day, where she earned SWOFHL Coach of the Year honors three times, in 2019, 2020 and 2025. She played Division I field hockey at Davidson College, serving as team captain her senior year and earning All-Conference recognition. In 2019 she led Summit to its first playoff appearance in more than a decade, according to her coach profile on the Indian Hill Braves Athletics site.
In that preseason profile, Betz described her outlook for the program: "Field hockey is growing fast in our region, and our players all play a role in adding to the legacy of Cincinnati field hockey."
Players who saw action in the Sept. 8 rout of Summit Country Day included Elodie Emminger, Kathryn Setzekorn, Nella Grace Lewellen, Fay Van de Meulengraaf, Kate Lanphear, Polly Holmes, Mirabel Chandler and Mimi Foad.
No individual goal-scorer was listed for the Ballard game.
Indian Hill returns home Monday, Sept. 14, to host Oakwood at 7 p.m. at Tomahawk Stadium in a SWOFHL conference matchup. The Braves then travel to St. Ursula Academy on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. before hosting Walnut Hills on Senior Night, Thursday, Sept. 24.
