A new nursing school will open its doors in Sycamore Township on Monday, August 31, aiming to put a dent in Greater Cincinnati's healthcare staffing crisis.

Chamberlain University is launching its Cincinnati campus at the Kenwood Collection, 5905 E. Galbraith Road, Suite 3000, occupying 32,006 square feet on the entire third floor of The Tower directly across from Kenwood Town Centre Mall. The campus can enroll up to 450 students in a three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

"Cincinnati has the health systems and the need, with over 50,000 open healthcare jobs," Priya Shastri, executive director of the Cincinnati campus, said in a Chamberlain press release issued in June. "In our region, where many programs are already at or near capacity, Chamberlain's program offers a three-year BSN pathway to graduate practice-ready nurses, with state-of-the-art simulation labs, and flexible scheduling for working adults and career changers."

The numbers underscore the urgency. Ohio recorded nearly 50,000 healthcare vacancies per month last year, according to Chamberlain's parent company Covista. The state faces a 15% nursing shortage, with 10,000 to 14,000 open nursing positions, according to a WHIONews Facebook post. In Greater Cincinnati specifically, six open healthcare jobs compete for every healthcare graduate, according to the Covista Care Capacity Monitor fielded by Gallup.

What the program offers

The BSN program requires no application fee and no prerequisite courses. Students will complete direct patient-care clinicals at local health system partners and can choose evening and weekend scheduling. The campus features simulation labs, collaborative learning spaces and 24/7 access to online coursework and tech support.

Chamberlain is the nation's largest school of nursing, with more than 135 years of history and accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. The Cincinnati location is its 25th campus nationwide and second in Ohio, joining an existing Columbus campus. Covista, traded on the NYSE under ticker CVSA, serves more than 97,000 students across five accredited institutions.
