Adam Rich is the Sycamore Township Fire Department's newest lieutenant.

Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Weidman administered the officer's oath to Rich at the Tuesday, July 21 Trustee Meeting, held at the Township Administration Building, 8540 Kenwood Road. Rich had served as a firefighter and paramedic before the promotion elevated him to a command role within the department.

The township announced the promotion on its website Wednesday, July 22, posting a photo of Weidman congratulating Rich after the swearing-in.

What the department does

The Sycamore Township Fire Department provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to nearly 21,000 residents, plus more than 30,000 visitors, business customers, and employees who move through the township daily, according to the department's website. The department operates two stations: Station 92 at 8540 Kenwood Road, which doubles as headquarters, and Station 93 at 11580 Deerfield Road.

The department was formed in October 1995 when two private fire companies, the Montgomery Community Fire Department and the Rossmoyne Community Fire Department, merged after serving the area for more than 60 years.
