The annual Mariemont Paint Out returns Oct. 16-17 with more than $2,000 in prizes for plein air painters who capture the village on canvas.
The Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati Foundation, which was created in 2007 to manage the historic Resthaven Barn and organizes the two-day competition, is offering $750 for first place, $500 for second and $300 for third, according to Living Magazines. Local businesses and private donors are contributing additional cash and merchandise awards. The William G. and Jane Helms Charitable Foundation is sponsoring the event.
Ohio artist Chuck Marshall will judge the entries. Marshall is a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and the Ohio Plein Air Society. He describes his work as spanning tight realism to loose impressionism.
The competition draws painters from beyond the region. In 2025, Sherri Thomas of Wisconsin was among the participants, painting at the Bell Tower in Dogwood Park.
How it works
Canvas stamping begins Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fifty West Brewing Company on Wooster Pike. A second stamping session runs Saturday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at The Barn, the foundation's cultural center at 6980 Cambridge Ave. in Mariemont.
Artists then spread across the village to paint. The foundation provides maps highlighting parks, walking trails and overlooks. All works must be returned to The Barn by 4 p.m. Saturday.
Public reception and art sale
Residents who want to see the finished paintings and buy one can attend a public reception and art sale Saturday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at The Barn.
