The Madeira Historical Society will host two free programs at the Madeira Public Library this November as part of the national America's 250th birthday celebration, anchoring a fall schedule that runs from September open houses through December holiday events.
The society released its full calendar of remaining 2026 events in August, giving residents a complete look at programming through year's end.
The two library programs headline the schedule. On Nov. 7, Greenacres will present "The Greenacres Story" at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room, followed by children's activity stations around 2:15 p.m. The foundation, based on Spooky Hollow Road, preserves land reflecting the area's traditional environment and offers education in arts, agriculture and nature. On Nov. 14, board member Les LeFevre will present "Madeira's Pioneer Families" at 1 p.m. in the same room. Both programs are free.
The fall season opens Sept. 5 with a Miller House Museum open house from 1 to 4 p.m. at 7226 Miami Ave., next door to the library. An open membership meeting follows Sept. 19 at noon, and the annual membership picnic is Sept. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Miller House backyard. Reservations are required for the picnic.
October brings another open house on Oct. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Nov. 7, the museum will also hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m., shifted one hour later than usual to accommodate the library program. A second open membership meeting is set for Nov. 21 at noon.
The society wraps the year with two Christmas open houses on Dec. 5 and Dec. 19, both from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum will be decorated for the holiday and will serve hot chocolate and cookies.
The annual Christmas dinner is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Kenwood Country Club. Everyone is welcome, and RSVP forms will go out in November. The society asks residents to watch for those mailings to confirm the date.
President Douglas Oppenheimer wrote in the society's June 2026 newsletter that the organization spends roughly $30,000 a year maintaining the Miller House Museum and its grounds. "Members are at the Miller House every week working on behalf of the society and the Madeira Community," Oppenheimer wrote. The society is now in its 54th year.
