Madeira's bid to knock off the Cincinnati Hills League's last unbeaten team fell short Friday, Sept. 25, as the Mustangs lost 38-14 at Deer Park.

The defeat gave Madeira its second loss of the season. The Mustangs had entered the game with just one loss through five weeks.

Deer Park improved to 6-0, the Wildcats' best start since the 1981 team went 10-0, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Morgan Brown broke the school's all-time scoring record during the game. The previous mark was held by Norey Johnson, class of 2022, according to a Deer Park Athletics post on X.

Brown entered Week 6 ranked fifth in Southwest Ohio's Divisions III–VII in rushing yards with 578 and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns with seven through five games, per the Enquirer's statistical leaders. Deer Park quarterback Tink Sellers had matched Madeira's Cooper Blackburn with 11 passing touchdowns apiece, tied for third in the area. Sellers also had three interceptions on defense, tied for second.

Blackburn, running back Simon Peters and wide receiver Sam Redlinger had carried the Mustangs' offense through the first five weeks. Blackburn ranked among the area's top passers with 833 yards. Redlinger sat ninth in receiving yards at 387 and was tied for second in receiving touchdowns with six. Peters was tied for 10th in rushing touchdowns with six.

The Mustangs faced a Deer Park defense that had allowed just 21 points through five games, second-best in Divisions III–VII. The Wildcats' scoring offense led the same group at 229 points. Madeira ranked ninth in scoring offense at 179.

WLWT's pregame preview had favored Madeira to win on the road, noting both teams were among the CHL's top squads.

In other CHL Week 6 results Friday, Indian Hill shut out Taylor 45-0 and Wyoming defeated Mariemont 45-10.

Week 7 opponents for Madeira and Deer Park had not been confirmed as of Saturday.
