The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library is asking residents to help name the delivery trucks that shuttle books, movies and other materials between its 41 branches, and the truck serving Madeira and Mariemont needs a name by Aug. 26.
The East Region truck connects seven branches: Anderson, Loveland, Madeira, Madisonville, Mariemont, Mt. Washington and Symmes Township. Each truck has three finalist names to choose from, described by the library as a mix of literary-inspired and Cincinnati-themed options. Residents can view the finalists and cast a vote online through a form on chpl.org, or pick up a paper ballot at any of the participating branch locations.
Voting closes at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26. Winners will be announced in September on the library's website and social media channels.
"Behind every hold pickup is a network of staff, sorting equipment, and delivery trucks working together to keep our libraries connected," Angela Hursh, CHPL's brand and communications director, wrote in the Aug. 12 announcement.
The naming process started earlier this summer when library staff submitted creative ideas. Branch and regional managers narrowed those submissions to three finalists per truck before opening the vote to the public. The library divided its system into five voting groups for the contest: East, West, Central, Mid-City and the Downtown Main Library.
A note for Madeira voters: The Madeira Branch Library is scheduled to close to the public Monday, Aug. 17, for heating and cooling system replacement work. Curbside service will remain available during the closure, but residents who want to cast a paper ballot in person should plan to visit before the branch closes or head to the Mariemont Branch instead. The online form remains available through the Aug. 26 deadline regardless of the closure. The Mariemont Branch, which reopened Jan. 3 after a $2 million renovation, remains open as usual.
